The logic behind an acid reflux diet is that you should avoid foods that are believed to cause the condition and eat more of foods that might prevent acid reflux. There is a theory behind food as a causal factor in acid reflux. It is believed that certain foods can either increase the amount of acid in the stomach or cause the sphincter at the end of the esophagus to relax. When the sphincter relaxes at the wrong time during digestion, the acid from the stomach could get through the esophagus.

Sometimes instead of watching what you eat, you should watch how much you eat. Instead of coming up with a complicated acid reflux diet you should just avoid overeating. Eating too much requires more stomach acid for digestion.

Since people are unique, you do not have to rely on a ready-made list of what to eat and what not to. A good way to come up with your own acid reflux diet is to write a food diary. Take note of the foods you eat, how much you eat of each and if you experience acid reflux symptoms.
